I was introduced to the writings of Jalaluddin Rumi in 1971 and continued to do research on his ideas and teachings which led to a trip to Konya in Turkey where I traveled with friends. Upon my return to Olympia Washington I began a series of visual studies of patterns that I saw in rugs and in tiled settings. My then current technique of pouring paint made this effort very difficult indeed. At this time I also began to make monoprints.
